Science fiction has been a source of inspiration for new technologies and it’s also playing a role in military strategy.
Apparently, the French army is now employing science fiction writers to help “anticipate future threats to national security”.
These writers are supposed to imagine scenarios “that might not occur to military planners”, says the report.
Of course, these imagined scenarios are kept top secret.
Apparently, this has also been done in the United States as well after the September 11 attacks.
Imagine being able to “imagine” and make thing up for a living, for more than just entertainment.
What a fascinating job to have.
More and more these days, I’m beginning to see how writers — from fiction to sales copy — play an important role in a range of industries.
For a long time, I believed that it was only tech and coding that spanned across industries. I believed this even as a writer.
But writing — being able to imagine, having the ability to communicate effectively — has such a vital role to play as well.
When I was 6, I said I wanted to be a writer because I wanted to live other lives, I wanted to explore other worlds. After all these years, stories still excite me.
And building these stories word by word is a craft I still want to master.
